In addition to the three day trainee meeting (April/May) and the ANZSCTS ASM Trainee day (November), the Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery decided to expand the formal trainee teaching with a midyear online only meeting. The plan, once travel is unrestricted, is for the three day meeting and the ANSZSCTS ASM Trainee Day to be in person, and the midyear meeting to remain online only. The addition of an online only meeting is to ensure adequate time is given to formally teaching the syllabus, ensuring the syllabus is covered over a 5 year period across the three meetings, but without requiring more travel and time away from units and families for trainees.

The sections of the syllabus to be covered in August 2021 are remaining topics from Mediastinal Disease and Pleural Disease, and to cover syllabus section of the Oseophagus. The format will involve lectures from specialists.
